Yves De Koninck is Professor of Psychiatry & Neuroscience at Université Laval, Scientific Director of the CERVO Brain Research Centre and Director of Research of the Quebec Integrated University Health and Social Services Centre, Fellow of the Canadian Academy of Health Sciences and of the Royal Society of Canada. Former President of the Canadian Association for Neuroscience (can-can.org), he founded the Quebec Pain Research Network in 2002 (qprn.ca), the Neurophotonics Centre in 2006 and the Canadian Neurophotonics Platform in 2014 (neurophotonics.ca). While he dedicated his career to understanding the mechanisms underlying chronic pain, he has been a strong proponent of transdisciplinarity, leading efforts to bridge across disciplines, create collaborative research environments and train young scientists at the interface of research fields. He now leads Sentinel North (sentinelnorth.ulaval.ca) a global initiative to harness the power of light for the benefit of health, environment and sustainable development in the North. He also leads the Canadian Brain Research Strategy (canadianbrain.ca), a grassroots initiative to promote and strengthen neuroscience through collaborative trans-Canadian efforts towards a big science approach for brain research. For his transdisciplinary efforts he received the Jacques-Rousseau Prize from Acfas, the 2018 Brockhouse Canada Prize and the 2019 Emily Gray Award from the Biophysical Society.
