Nov 27th, 2020; 11-12PM AEDT

Presenters:
Associate Professor Catherine Chamberlain, NHMRC Career fellow, Editor of NHMRC’s Guidelines for Guidelines module: Engaging Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people in guideline development.

Dr Jason Agostino, Medical advisor to the National Aboriginal Community Controlled Health Organisation (NACCHO)

Description of webinar:
In 2020, the COVID-19 pandemic has brought the role of evidence, methods, and trustworthiness of advice into sharp focus. With this, an urgent need to address significant gaps in culturally-responsive evidence-based guidance to support healthcare for First Nations people during the COVID-19 pandemic was identified.

To respond to this issue a collaboration was formed and is being led by First Nations organisations, researchers and clinicians actively involved in the COVID-19 response. This collaboration works together to provide practical and timely advice for primary healthcare teams supporting prevention and management of COVID-19 for First Nations peoples across Australia.

This webinar will discuss the experience of those leaders involved in the collaboration to produce culturally-responsive guidance. It will also describe the key features of the celebrated broader First Nations-led response to the pandemic.
